Sightsavers implements projects in over 30 countries in Africa and South Asia working to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote the rights of people with disabilities. We are looking for a Payroll Assistant to work closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure accurate and efficient payroll function across the UK and Internationally.

Hours: Part time, flexible. Ideally 21 hours a week over 3 days, negotiable
About the role
Sightsavers is looking for a Payroll Assistant to support a large payroll function across the UK and some international locations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in payroll or finance, or a desire to gain experience within this area, who has excellent attention to detail and motivation to learn. You will join at an exciting time for Sightsavers as the international payroll function is expanded.
This role can be based remotely, as a hybrid arrangement or at Sightsavers’ modern Haywards Heath office, a short walk from Haywards Heath station and an easy commute from London or Brighton.
Payroll Assistant key duties will include:
- Supporting the Payroll Manager with all payroll activities within the UK and Internationally
- Resolving colleague queries
- To be in contact for all external payroll providers and to maintain an efficient working relationship with such providers
- Assisting with the running of monthly UK payroll (e.g. calculating salaries, tax and social security withholdings and other allowances, benefits and entitlements)
- Assisting with administrative processing of new hires and leavers
- Assisting with processing maternity/paternity/shared parental leave
- Assisting with calculating adjustments required, including pro-rata calculations
- Assisting with producing monthly pension contribution schedules, including amendments to contributions and submit for payment
- Providing employment law support and consultancy
- Assisting with maintaining and updating all personnel records

Jobholder Requirements
Essential:
- A qualification in a related subject (e.g. a Degree or qualification in Finance, Payroll, Economics) or working experience within Finance/Payroll
- Competent with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) including intermediate ability with Excel (e.g., confident with pivot tables and VLOOKUP) is of particular importance.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative
- A high level of confidentiality
Desirable:
- Ability to process payslips with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of common payroll software applications
- Knowledge of relevant contractual and employment laws and regulations
- Knowledge of relevant regulations applying to HR administration
- An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity for disabled people.
