Do you have an interest in becoming involved in how Hull University Teaching Hospitals can develop safer services for our patients?

Are you or have you ever been a patient, carer or family member of someone who has used any health and care services?

If your answer is YES, then you can become a Patient Safety Partner (PSP)

Your role will be to work with staff at HUTH to ensure that we prioritise the safety requirements of our patients to ensure things that go right and minimising the things that go wrong for people receiving our services.

You will talk to people and join key meetings across the organisation. You will become involved in the structures that support patient safety. The role description outlines the type of activities you will undertake.

Why have these opportunities arisen? The NHS is in the process of changing the way it embraces patient safety, moving from a focus on individual incidents and issues to a wider look at system learning and reviewing safety across the organisation.

The Patient Safety Strategy published in 2019 and it’s Framework for Involving Patients in Patient Safety (2021). This opportunity is part of this work.

The Role description provides additional information on the skills and experience required. There is no contract of employment between PSPs and the organisation. Instead, the relationship is based on mutually agreed expectations about the role. Expenses payments are provided.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust strongly encourages new starters to have the Covid-19 vaccine. However, it is not a mandatory requirement to work for us.

HUTH has two main sites: Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital with an annual budget of approximately £800 million. The Trust employs around 11,000 staff and serves an extended population of 1.25 million, delivering a number of outpatient services from locations across the area.

The Trust’s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.

HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.
