We have a full and part time hours available on a permanent contract, for an enthusiastic Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join the team in the Children’s Outpatients department
The post holder will work as part of the nursing team to assist the qualified nursing staff in ensuring patients needs are met. This will include undertaking height and weights, collection of specimens, developmental assessments, phlebotomy and skin prick testing as well as other ad hoc procedures. They will be expected to work as a team as well as independently.
Candidates need to be willing to be flexible to cover clinics and be able to work on site at Airedale General Hospital as well as at satellite locations where clinics are held.
The successful candidate will need to have the ability to diversify to meet the needs of the outpatients environment and have the ability to work under pressure. You will have sound interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate a commitment to working whilst setting a high standard of care for babies, children and families.
1. To participate in play appropriate to the needs of babies and children in hospital, using play to minimise the adverse effects of hospitalisation.
2. To prepare for and participate in investigative and therapeutic procedure
3. To deal with telephone and personal enquiries, referring to senior staff as appropriate.
4. To maintain general tidiness of the department
5. To undertake training as required, taking all reasonable opportunities to develop knowledge and skills.
6. To support the team in ensuring effective communication between all staff, patients and visitors.
7. To promote team spirit, showing courtesy, consideration and care for colleagues at all times.
8. To understand the Child Protection Policy, and work within the guidelines
9. To obtain specimens as required
10. To measure and monitor the physical condition of babies, infants and children
11. To ensure that parents have appropriate information regarding the facilities available to them during their time at hospital.
12. To receive and guide people attending the outpatients department and other areas of the hospital
13. To explain all delays in clinics to families on an individual bases
14. To support clinicians
15. To date, time and sign legibly all entries you make in patient records and systmOne
16. To provide treatments following care plans and guidelines under the indirect supervision of a qualified nurse
17. Liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
