Job description
Due to huge growth we have a vacancy for a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in our Sutton Farm Oteley Road branch.
We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic person to work in our recently refurbished and expanded practice.
The role is varied from cleaning kennels, answering the phone, and running blood samples, right up to assisting in theatre with anaesthetics once training has been completed. This can be a progressive role with a view to train as a veterinary nurse, but this is not essential. The entry level requirements are 5 GCSE’s to include English, Maths and Science. The PCA position is full time, working average 43 hours a week, shared weekends and bank holidays (once fully trained) with time given back. The region and the branch is made up of great, supportive teams who would look after you well.
You will work alongside a branch partner, an assistant vet, a head nurse and a team of 5 other nurses and receptionist.
The practice is linked to a 24 hour main centre which is in Shrewsbury which has the state of the art facilities, including a CT scanner and hydrotherapy unit.
Skills and experience
Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to hold a full UK driving licence.
The successful candidate will have plenty of hands on experience with patients including walking dogs and TLC with cats; any previous experience working within a veterinary practice or rescue centre (voluntary or paid) is advantageous.
We are looking for colleagues who demonstrate commitment and a positive attitude. Enjoy working within busy environments and within a team, however, must show confidence when working alone as and when required; demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach to work and happy to get stuck in where ever needed.
Required:
Applicants must hold 5 GCSE's at grade C / 4 or above to include Maths, English Language and a Science and be in possession of examination certificates.
Alternatively, City & Guilds will accept alternative qualifications, e.g. Veterinary Care Assistant Certificate, Animal Nursing Assistant Award or National Diploma in Animal Care - you will still be required to provide proof of GCSE Maths and English and provide the original certificates.
If you have taken your qualifications abroad, we will require a NARIC comparison.
Please upload you certificates (not statements !) and list your grades on your CV, including Maths and English. This will ensure a smooth and faster recruitment process.
If you are unable to provide evidence of the entry certificates required, we will not be able to proceed forward with your application at this stage.
