Pastoral Manager
Location: St Leonard’s Catholic School, Durham, DH1 4NG
Grade: Grade I, SCP 28-31 (£34,723-£37,261) pro-rata
Hours: 37 hours per week, Permanent, Term Time Only (plus 5 working days)
St Leonard’s Catholic School is a highly successful and oversubscribed 11-18 secondary school located in the historic cathedral city of Durham. Our school aims to provide a stimulating and encouraging environment within which pupils can attain the highest academic success of which they are capable. Last year, our Progress 8 score at GCSE was +0.5, the 3rd highest in the North East. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled practitioner to join our pastoral team as Pastoral Manager.
Applicants will be highly motivated and have a passion for high standards in education. The core purpose of the role will be to work with pupils who need extra help and support to meet school expectations.
The Pastoral Manager will work with a range of key pupils on a daily basis. Some of this work will be to deliver the usual classroom curriculum as well as deliver bespoke support on resilience, emotional well-being and mentoring.
The Pastoral Manager will work directly with the Assistant Head of Pastoral, and will be a part of the wider pastoral team within the school.
The successful candidate will:
- Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with pupils within a school setting.
- Have a very strong understanding and contribute to an effective safeguarding culture.
- Have a strong understanding of how to support pupils in achieving and maintaining good mental health.
- Be committed to the highest standards of conduct and behaviour.
- Have an enthusiasm to work with pupils and make a difference to their education.
- Be able to adapt to situations and provide a bespoke level of support for pupils as appropriate.
- Be able to support pupils in some classes, as appropriate.
- Be adept at using a range of IT packages to access information and record actions.
- Have excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders: teachers, pupils and parents.
- Be able to demonstrate inclusive practice.
- Be passionate about developing children as learners and understand how children learn in a secondary school and inclusive setting.
- Be committed to the safeguarding of all children and have proven skills and abilities to support safeguarding across the school.
