About the role

Are you looking for a new opportunity in public affairs, stakeholder management and relationship building?
We’ve recently formed a new team focused on strengthening partnerships across London, from government departments to local government, the voluntary sector, and businesses.
We support the Mayor and the GLA by building intelligence, advocating for Londoners, and bringing people together to solve some of the most difficult challenges facing the city.
We’re looking for someone with experience in relationship building, stakeholder management and an interest in parliamentary and public affairs to support policy teams right across the GLA to achieve their ambitions through relationship building.
You will:
- Support GLA teams with their engagement with government, parliament, and local government
- Monitor developments in parliament and beyond, providing advice and succinct summaries for senior leaders
- Provide content for briefings for the Mayor, Deputy Mayors, and other senior staff in their meetings with government, parliament, local government, and other key stakeholders
- Assist in the delivery of the London Partnership Board – helping organise meetings, manage stakeholders and drafting reports

Principal accountabilities
- Assist in the delivery of a public affairs strategy that supports the delivery of the Mayor of London’s and the GLA’s key priorities, developing opportunities for collaboration and joint working.
- Advise on, service and attend meetings, when required, between the Mayor; GLA officers; government ministers, parliamentarians, and officials; London boroughs; the City of London; and other relevant organisations.
- Monitor government announcements, policy development and parliamentary activity; and provide succinct summaries for internal use.
- Identify opportunities for the GLA to engage with government and parliament, London boroughs and associated organisations; and provide advice on appropriate and effective responses.
- Assist in the coordination and development of common responses and approaches for the GLA group on government legislation, consultations, and other activities, including through cross-department collaboration and on a range of pan-London borough developments and activities.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date contact and stakeholder lists by monitoring key personnel changes in partner organisations including London Councils, boroughs, functional bodies, business and civil society groups, and major public services across London.
- Assist in the successful delivery of the successor to the London Recovery Board, ensuring it is professionally managed, with effective stakeholder management of Board members.
- Understand and assist in managing the GLA’s reputational risks with partners, whilst maintaining an up-to-date awareness of legislative, technical and policy changes as relevant to the post.

Person Specification
Technical requirements/experience/qualifications
- Successful track record of working in a complex stakeholder environment; a good understanding of the roles played by national, regional, and local government in the London context.
- Evidence of success in supporting the delivery of a public affairs programme.
- Demonstrable experience of producing high-quality public affairs products, such as briefing and meeting notes, stakeholder lists and drafts to consultation responses.

This role is based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1Z).
GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
