Job description
Animal Magic Parties are expanding and require a fun, friendly and motivated person to provide entertaining and educational exotic animal shows and displays at parties, schools, nursing homes and nurseries etc.
You can choose to work either one day or both days on a weekend. Further work is available in the week if wanted.
We are looking for a fun and out-going person to join our team. You will be working with a wide variety of mammals, reptiles, chelonians, invertebrates and birds of prey. You will be responsible for packing and handling animals, doing shows and communicating with clients. You will need to travel to our base in Buxton , collect the animals and take them to shows in Derbyshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Manchester.
You must be able to work on your own and occasionally as part of a team. The priorities for this position include attention to animal care and health and providing an excellent guest experience. Friendly communication will be expected at all times.
You will have to undergo a probationary period where your suitability for the role is assessed.
You must have a clean driving licence with at least two years of experience. Please do not apply if you do not have this, it is essential for the job.
Main Duties Include
· Ensuring animals are packed safely and securely whilst in transit
· Ensuring high standards of welfare are maintained at all times. Providing for the needs and checking the health and well-being of a wide range of mammals, birds, reptiles, invertebrates and chelonians whilst out at shows, ensuring feed, water and equipment is correctly provided.
· Keeping all exhibit areas and off exhibit areas, clean, neat and well organised whilst showing an awareness of health and safety
· Good use of time management to ensure audiences of differing sizes receive an excellent experience within the time given.
· Ensure a presentable appearance at all times
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Personal Specification
Qualifications
A Level 2 qualification in animal care and/or in childcare would be desirable (and a distinct advantage) but not essential. A qualification in First Aid would be desirable but not essential.
A full, clean driving licence is essential. Please do not apply if you have not been driving for at least two years.
Skills/ competencies
· Ability to work weekends, either one day or both days. (These will be organised to fit around you). We can offer further work in the week if wanted.
· Must be able to present to small and bigger groups of children.
· Must be enthusiastic and patient with both animals and children and attentive to their needs
· Must have a positive, respectful and friendly attitude towards others
· Must be able to handle any animal in the collection, you will be exposed to allergens such as feathers, fur, dust, hay and zoonotic diseases. There are the possibility of animal bites and scratches
· Will be expected to maintain and develop a broad knowledge of the animals you are working with and be able to communicate this to the general public
· Must be able to work individually and as part of a team
· Must be punctual and have excellent time management skills
· Must be able to adhere to all of Animal Magic’s policies regarding husbandry, records, and animal health. Health and safety policies, practices and procedures
· Must have basic numeracy skills
