Position Summary Statement:
We are seeking to recruit a paralegal within our Public Law & Human Rights Department. This role will support up to three qualified solicitors in a team that comprises six partners, two associates, ten solicitors, 11 trainees and paralegals and two administrative assistants. The team’s work includes a wide range of judicial review and general public law work, as well work in the following areas: education, court of protection, mental heath, planning and environmental law.
The post holder may ultimately be considered for a training contract at the firm following an internal recruitment process (though there can be no guarantee of a trainee vacancy).
OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will consist of handling new enquiries, assisting fee earners with case preparation, file administration, preparing and managing funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency, undertaking legal research, preparing draft documents including witness statements and schedules, drafting aspects of advice, processing evidence, preparing, collating and ordering documentation, attending conferences with clients and counsel and attending court hearings.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Legal qualifications, legal professional experience, and knowledge of public and human rights law, as well as legal aid funding are desirable.
You will also need to be highly motivated, proactive, enthusiastic, have excellent drafting, communication, organisation and administrative skills, a flexible and professional attitude, an ability to work on confidential matters and under pressure together with a keen eye for detail.
