The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join us as a Paralegal within our Business Property Team in our Bath office. This role has scope for development and would suit someone looking to further develop their experience and skills.
The team carries out a wide range of work primarily (but not exclusively) for owner managed businesses and the families of those owner managers. This involves both commercial, high end residential work and work that spills into other areas – including country issues and farming.
The bulk of the Team’s work comes from owners and operators of non-charity, commercial businesses. The clients are based in the South West, London and elsewhere in the UK.
The team deals with a broad spectrum of work:
- Leases
- Disposals
- Acquisitions
- Easements and other complex title issues
- Development related work
- Country matters including farm diversification – property related
- Funding and financing of property and related businesses

Key responsibilities
General duties include but not limited to:
- Effectively manage an individual caseload (with supervision where appropriate).
- Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere if needed.
- Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate team and wider firm environment.
- Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
- Maintain your continuing professional development requirements and take an active interest in furthering your knowledge within the field of law.
- To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the firm’s standards, procedures and core values.
- To regularly attend, and be involved in preparation for, team meetings.
- To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.
Requirements
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good IT skills. Knowledge of document management systems and an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office would be beneficial.
- Accurate and efficient audio and copy typing skills.
- Professional and effective telephone skills taking detailed messages where necessary
- Good communication skills not only in person but also in writing and on the phone.
- Strong inter-personal skills when dealing with clients and work colleagues alike.
- Ability to work under pressure showing commitment to your colleagues and the Firm in general.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to contribute to improving working practices.
Additional requirements
Previous experience working within a Property Team is required.
The candidate must be discreet when dealing with the Firm’s confidential affairs.
Showing commitment to your fee earners, your colleagues and the firm in general is also important.
The candidate would be expected to work as part of a team and within the wider Team, i.e. other secretaries and fee earners in the office and to show initiative, be prepared to take responsibility and be proactive.
