Following a recent review of the Legal Services Department we’re looking to increase the number of staff in this team by recruiting a Paralegal. Paralegals provide high level legal support to lawyers whilst also managing their own caseload. Instrumental in ensuring the timely and effective progression of cases, the postholder will work closely with partners and counsel in the preparation of cases ensuring that they are resolved fairly and professionally throughout. You will:

  • Provide day to day support to both the contentious and non-contentious solicitors, across all aspects of their workload. Apply technical specialist knowledge to a wide range of tasks.
  • Investigate and handle (with minimal supervision) low value EL and PL claims against the CC and making recommendations to the litigation solicitors regarding liability.
  • Draft documents and prepare court bundles using technical expertise to ensure a consistent high standard.
  • Prepare and/or assist the Force in the preparation of applications for disclosure and civil protection orders.
  • Lead and undertake research in order to respond to requests for advice from across the force in line with policies, process, guidance and legislation.
  • Act as a point of contact to instruct and work with counsel in order to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Will take an active role to liaise with the court and internal/external legal representatives and agencies on behalf of the legal team. Undertaking professional discussions to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the receipt and settlement of claims. To highlight any trends and make recommendations on police procedures and Force Policy to the legal department.
  • To assist where required in the sharing of lessons learnt across the Force.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £32,994.00-£34,656.00 per year
