Sutton Law is a well-established law firm that assists clients in a variety of legal matters, including business law, immigration law, and family law. We serve clients in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Paralegal to join our law firm. As a Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in providing legal support and assistance to our clients in the Small Claims Courts. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, assisting with case preparation, and communicating with clients and other legal professionals.
Responsibilities:
Legal Research: Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and regulations to support case preparation and provide accurate legal information to lawyers.
Drafting and Documentation: Prepare and draft various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal requirements and firm standards.
Case Management: Assist in managing client files, organizing case materials, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all case-related activities.
Client Communication: Interact with clients, gather necessary information, and provide updates on case progress. Maintain professional and responsive communication to address client inquiries and concerns.
Court Filings: Prepare and file legal documents with the appropriate courts, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Trial Preparation: Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, coordinating witness interviews, and preparing trial binders.
Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to lawyers, such as scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and handling correspondence.
Requirements:
Paralegal Certification: Possess a Paralegal diploma/certificate from an accredited institution and be licensed by the Law Society of Ontario as a Paralegal.
Knowledge of Ontario Legal System: Familiarity with the rules, procedures, and practices of the Ontario legal system, including the Small Claims Court, Superior Court of Justice, and administrative tribunals.
Legal Research and Writing Skills: Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to effectively summarize and present legal information. Excellent writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Communication Skills: Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with clients, legal professionals, and court personnel.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using legal research databases, document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Professionalism and Ethics: Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all interactions with clients and colleagues.
