Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in a high-profile public inquiry team. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a unique area which deals with high profile matters that consider events of serious public concern. The team provides legal advice and support on a wide range of inquiry related matters including offering support to individuals who participate in inquiries e.g. civil servants and Ministers with preparation of their evidence, witness support and dealing with disclosure requests.
We are looking for dynamic and motivated people who are keen to work in the public interest. You must be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, good written skills (including close attention to detail) and an ability to work independently and under pressure. The post is likely to involve assisting with extensive disclosure exercises and other support tasks related to public inquiries/reviews. Previous experience of public inquiries/reviews and/or litigation would be an advantage but is not essential. Legal experience / qualifications are desirable but not essential. Please note that the post holder will be required to be flexible and take on a wide range of paralegal and administrative tasks subject to business need.
As a Paralegal your main responsibilities would be:
Drafting straightforward letters and documents- Assisting in the booking of Counsel and preparation of instructions to Counsel
- Liaising with Counsel, clients and other stakeholder in a professional manner
- Work in relation to large scale disclosure exercises
- Pursuing costs orders and drafting schedules of costs and submissions
- Maintaining electronic records in the Case Management System
- Complying with the relevant policies and procedures when handling case documents
- Some roles may include line management responsibility for one or more Administrative Officers
- Administrative tasks including scanning, filing, arranging meetings, making travel arrangements, taking minutes at meetings.
- Complying with LEXCEL requirements and assisting the Team Leader and team as a whole in ensuring compliance
- Assisting the Team Leader and team with client matters, as appropriate.
You’ll have:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Experience of public inquiries/reviews and/or litigation would be an advantage but is not essential.
- A relevant form of legal education AND/OR experience/training in a legal or regulatory environment
- Strong administration skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Good oral and written communications skills
- General IT competency including MS Office suite.

Any rates of payment quoted will reflect the gross rate per day for the assignment and will be subject to appropriate taxes and statutory costs. As such the payment to the intermediary and your income resulting from this contract will be different.
