Paralegal

Job description

Full Time / 37 hours / Permanent

Are you a hard-working, confident and self-motivated person? Do you want to play an integral role in providing guidance on school admission appeals to parents/families of Leicester City?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Team of Leicester City Council’s Education, Employment & Litigation Team in what is a crucial role to the functioning of the team.

You’ll be joining a busy team who provide support and advice on education, employment and litigation matters. The well-established team consists of around 15-20 paralegals and lawyers. Surrounded by expertise you’ll work in a supportive environment which offers plenty of opportunity for self-development.

The position on offer is a full-time, permanent role working 37 hours, based working from home and City Hall. Core working hours are 8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am-4.30pm on a Friday.

What you’ll be doing

As a Paralegal not one day is the same, you’ll undertake a range of legal work from answering phone calls to the public and advising on how admission appeals can be actioned and/or how they’re currently progressing to conducting legal research on a wide range of different issues. In addition, you’ll provide assistance and support to the lawyers within the team through whatever means necessary.

A main role of yours will be to undertake the administration of school admission appeals including organising the hearings, collating documents and clerking. This will involve working closely with members of the public and the Council’s own admission services with the occasional liaison with LCC schools.

What you’ll need

The successful candidate will be a hard-working, confident and self-motivated individual who has experience undertaking a range of administrative tasks with recent ability to utilise this experience within a busy legal team. In addition, ability to use a PC with Microsoft programs such as: Word, Teams and Outlook and so on is essential in ensuring the accurate and timely documentation of the appeals supported by yourself and the wider team.

You’ll demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently support the team paying attention to detail despite the pressure of pending deadlines. Your excellent inter-personal skills will allow you to develop and maintain strong working relationships with members of the team and clients.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.

We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator.
