Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian to join our small, friendly paediatric dietetic team, based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, which provides services across North Derbyshire.
The team provide a range of dietetic services including services to:
- Inpatients on our paediatric ward.
- Children and young people in hospital and community clinics.
- In a feeding clinic, alongside a speech and language therapist.
- In specialist MDT clinics (diabetes, cystic fibrosis, food allergy).
- Children and young people who are enterally fed.
This post would suit a dietitian with post graduate experience and some paediatric dietetic experience who is keen to consolidate their existing knowledge and expand their skills in the dietetic management of children with a range of conditions.
The Nutrition and Dietetic Service is based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and is made up of 30 staff which includes Dietitians, an Assistant Dietitian Practitioner, a Nutrition Support Nurse and and Administrative Assistant. We are provide A, B and C practice placements and have just appointed to our first Apprentice Dietitian post.

Clinical.
1. To provide a client centred nutrition & dietetic service to children and their carer’s at various locations according to patient’s needs.
2. To participate in the team approach to the care of individuals referred to the service.
3. To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings as required.
4. To liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary teams within the trust and the health community to ensure the dietetic needs of clients can be met.
5. To provide clinical knowledge and expertise to the wider multidisciplinary teams based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice.
6. To accurately collect relevant activity data required for service monitoring, management and evaluation.
7. To develop evidence based dietary information in conjunction with other members of the nutrition and dietetic team.
8. To provide cover for senior dietetic colleagues as appropriate.
Clinical Governance.
1. To be actively involved in the implementation and development of Clinical Governance.
2. To advise the Paediatric Team Leader and the Head of Nutrition & Dietetics on professional issues relating to paediatrics.
3. To work with dietetic colleagues to ensure the nutrition and dietetic training needs of nursing, medical and other staff is met within the Trust and the North Derbyshire health community.
4. To contribute with other members of the nutrition and dietetic team to the identification, development and implementation of standards of dietetic practice.
5. To actively participate in clinical audit and research.
6. To be involved with mealtime audits and attend relevant catering meetings as required.
7. To calculate nutritional content of hospital menus for the purposes of dietary assessment, menu coding, and meeting national standards.
8. To demonstrate a commitment to CPD by maintaining an up to date professional portfolio.
9. To provide support and supervision for dietetic students on practice placement.
Operational Management.
1. To work with senior colleagues within the hospital team to ensure cover arrangements are in place and patients are seen based on clinical need.
2. To supervise and support assistant dietetic practitioners and dietetic administrative staff.
