Packing Area Leader - Job Description

Salary - £13.07 per hour. Over time paid at time and a half. Must be flexible in hours and days of work to meet the demands of the business

Hours -3 on 3 off shifts rotating days and nights, 12 hour shifts 7-7

Due to an ever-increasing demand for our delicious product ranges, we require an additional packing area leader.

The Role

Our packing department plays a crucial role, ensuring our manufactured products are packaged, labelled/coded correctly and that the finished product meet all the required quality, safety and legal standards.

The packing area leader will work predominantly, and very closely with the shift manager, as well as liaising with team colleagues and other essential departments.

Daily Duties

Packing/Machinist

  • Assisting in packing/machinist duties
  • Ensuring that all baked products are effectively and efficiently packaged, with the correct legible coding and labels
  • Operating, setting up, adjusting, and monitoring packaging machinery
  • Placing empty cartons on the production line to be filled with baked products
  • Ensuring minimum wastage
  • Operating the packing control panel, which controls the conveyor belts/carousel
  • Supporting any general maintenance of machinery and reporting any defects
  • Complying with the highest quality standards first time

Compliance

  • Assisting in compliance duties
  • Ensuring that all baked products are effectively and efficiently packaged correctly
  • Checking label and coding, case label verification, metal, glass and hard plastic Inspection, product core temperature, average weight, and packing reconciliation
  • Retaining samples for taste panels/laboratory checks
  • Completing quality and associated compliance paperwork

Health & Safety

  • Understanding and following all company health, safety and hygiene policies and procedures, relating to your area of work, as well as, ensuring a clean environment and good housekeeping.
  • Ensuring acceptable personal hygiene cleanliness standards, including wearing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Assisting in the daily cleaning routines, and the weekly full scale clean down

Supervision

  • Supervising your teams packing, packing/machinists, and compliance members of staff
  • Monitoring employee absences, capability and performance issues, grievances, etc
  • Ensuring regular breaks are adhered to, boxing rotas are completed and followed, and all aspects of the daily requirements are communicated to your staff members
  • Making sure your team have acceptable personal hygiene standards, including the wearing of the correct personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ensuring all staff are participating in their daily cleaning routines, and the weekly full scale clean down
  • Meeting day to day operational objectives, ensuring targets are achieved
  • Attending all training and development courses, as appropriate
  • Training all packing, packing/machinists, and compliance team members to the highest standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of working within a food or manufacturing environment essential
  • Similar job experience preferred
  • Experience in staff supervision essential
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate preferred
  • Level 2 HACCP certificate preferred
  • Basic understanding of maths and English
