As our business gets back up to pre-pandemic levels despite these still being challenging times, we’re in need of some extra support in our busy packing and finishing area so that we can get more shoes into shoe boxes and out to dancers across the world.
The business
International Dance Shoes are one of the world’s leading brands of Ballroom & Latin American dance footwear, all hand-made in our factory in Milton Keynes. Our shoes are worn worldwide by the world’s best competitive dancers, fun-seeking social dancers, and on BBC’s famous ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ too!
We manufacture and then export shoes across the world and we’re recent recipients of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. We’re a family business, with a team of around 30 across our office and factory, which sells both online directly to dancers as well as via a huge network of stockists and distributors across the world with key markets in the US, Japan, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, China, and Australia!
The role
We need an extra pair of hands in our finishing and packing area. Our beautiful hand-made shoes need to be carefully and neatly packed for the customer, and those 100% recycled and recyclable shoe boxes then need to be packed in larger cartons to go to stockists, or in DHL bags to ship to online customers around the world.
Attention to detail is key as you’ll be labelling these shoe boxes too and we have lots of different designs and as our shoes are proudly made in the UK, there are lots of variations (heels, fittings etc.) to understand too. You may at times also need to make sure shoes then get despatched to the right customers at the right time.
We may also need support in our finishing areas which could involve adding those finishing touches to shoes and using some light stamping machines for stamping shoe sizes/branding on insoles & outsoles - which is pretty simple work with all training given!
You may at times be switching between these roles so it’s an active job!
We’re a small, hard-working team and the successful candidate will need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work in a fast-paced environment and has good communication skills, is focussed with a great attention to detail, and can work efficiently under pressure. Main responsibilities
- Neatly pack and apply labels to shoe boxes as shoes come off our production tracks
- Add finishing touches to shoes as and when required
- Potentially help to organise despatch of shoes from our factory
- Help out with any other ad-hoc tasks associated with packing and despatch
Skills we’re looking for
- Good communicator and able to take on instructions clearly
- Focused, with great attention to detail
- Able to work quickly and efficiently unsupervised
- Team player with a willingness to learn and help others
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract, Temp to perm
Contract length: 12 months
Part-time hours: 25 per week
Salary: £10.50 per hour
