We are seeking to appoint a Machine Learning Researcher, responsible for providing machine learning expertise for IMCM projects. Based at both the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, and the Big Data Institute, you will be a part of a group, aiming to make a real difference, not only to patients with and at risk of neurodegenerative disease, but also to contribute significantly to basic knowledge of the disease processes and to develop and apply research methods and experimental medicine approaches.
You will be responsible for designing and implementing machine learning research, analysing detailed and complex qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, and generating original ideas by building on existing concepts for datasets. You will work with IMCM Senior Data Managers, Geneticists and Bioinformaticians to manage the design and implementation of the IMCM data structures, from basic laboratory research to our activities in clinical trials. You will prepare the results of your work for presentation as publications in learned journals and at national and international conferences, representing the IMCM both nationally and internationally.
It is essential that you hold a relevant post-graduate qualification, together with substantial experience and a strong track record of applying machine learning techniques in a scientific environment. Experience working with a variety of ‘Omics data, across a number of different software, with an up-to-date knowledge of the current best practices for handling genetic data is essential, along with experience with high-performance cluster and cloud-based computing for analysis of large datasets. You will have demonstrable specialist knowledge, skills and experience to develop and oversee large programmes of technical work to a successful conclusion by agreed deadlines. The ability to lead and train machine learning researchers is essential.
