Bearsden Primary After School Care Role Profile – Childcare Worker
Job Title: BPASC Childcare Worker/outdoors
Reporting to: BPASC Assistant Manager

Main Purpose of the Role: Responsible for providing a safe and caring service for children at BPASC.
Salary: Above the national living wage depending on qualifications and experience
Hours: 2.30-6pm term time and holiday club hours are variable/flexible 8am-6pm
Main tasks and responsibilities
- To support the efficient management of childcare provision
- To assist in providing a safe environment for children
- To assist in providing a range of stimulating play activities to meet the needs of individual children.
- To support & protect children from situations that may impact their wellbeing
- To assist in planning, observing and assessing children’s social and emotional needs and development
- To assist promoting the cultural backgrounds of families, positive images and provide anti-discriminatory childcare practice
- To assist in ensuring that children are supervised and that the correct adult/child ratios are maintained at all times
- To be aware of complaints procedure
- To assist to ensure all resources are clean, safe and well maintained
- To contribute to meeting quality standards, including the implementation of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- To implement Equal Opportunities policies in all aspects of your work
- To assist in maintaining accurate records of children’s development.
- To attend regular supervision, team meetings and training as required by line manager.
- To undertake such other reasonable duties as the management may reasonably required.
Personal Specifications
Essential
Minimum SVQ 2 in Playwork/childcare or equivalent.
Willing to work towards Forest school qualification.
Experience
Previous experience of providing quality childcare in a similar establishment
Previous experience in an afterschool establishment
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Understand how to identify and meet the needs of young children
Awareness of relevant childcare legislation
Demonstrate developmentally appropriate activities for young children
Demonstrate empathy and is attentive in relation to children’s needs
Ability to work at a team player
Good communication skills (both written and oral).
Good organisational skills.
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Numerate and time management skills.
Understanding the needs of working parents
Experience in an outdoor play setting
Registration Requirements
You will require to register with the Scottish Social Service Council.
