An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Consultant in Clinical Microbiology or Medical Microbiologist with Infectious Diseases within NHS Golden Jubilee. NHS Golden Jubilee continues to grow and as a result we are inviting applications for this new role alongside the current full time microbiologist. You will be based at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, which is located 10 miles from the centre of Glasgow, and have responsibility for providing a clinical microbiology and infection control service.
The post holder will be one of two Consultants based at NHS Golden Jubilee, responsible for the provision of a Microbiology and Prevention and Control of Infection service. The successful candidate will be supported to undertake CPD opportunities in conjunction with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the wider Microbiology network both nationally and internationally as appropriate to role. Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for the full time post of Consultant Medical Microbiologist / Microbiologist with Infectious Diseases
For a joint Infectious Diseases/Microbiology trained postholder up to four Infectious Diseases sessions will be allocated weekly in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Duties will include Infectious Diseases consult ward rounds, specialist clinics & involvement in the outpatient antibiotic therapy service (OPAT) & weekly infectious diseases multidisciplinary meeting.
The Microbiology Department at GJNUH provides clinical microbiology services to the hospital and processes approximately 65,000 specimens per year. The successful applicant will be involved in the day-to-day running of the Medical Microbiology diagnostic laboratory service, maintenance of existing services and for future development of the service.
The appointment is for up to 10 PAs, with no out of hours or on call work. Where appropriate & by agreement infectious diseases sessions in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde may be undertaken. The post is subject to the terms and conditions for medical Consultant grade staff under the new Consultant contract (Scotland). Applicants must have full GMC registration and a licence to practice. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview.
Less than full time and hybrid working are possible subject to mutual agreement. Opportunities for research within the applicant’s job plan can be agreed where appropriate.
