Deckhand
Mowi Challenger, Small Isles
Basic Salary £25,000 to £28,000 per annum
Ability to earn up to 15% per annum in a cyclical bonus, max bonus payable £7,500 to £8,400 per cycle
Overtime available at an enhanced rate
We are currently looking for a reliable and highly motivated individual to take on the role of Deckhand on our net washing vessel the Mowi Challenger. An AKVA FNC8 net washer is onboard the vessel, which will provide valuable net washing services for the Company's offshore seawater farms on Muck and Rum in the Small Isles. This is a newly created role that will be challenging, but ultimately very rewarding, and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career opportunities.
If you are ambitious, motivated, and want to work with a like-minded team, then this is the role for you. This post is offered on a full time permanent basis. The successful candidate will be required to work on a two week on / two week off shift rotation, offering an excellent work / life balance. Accommodation will be provided on both islands for staff when on shift.
About the job
This role is a crucial part of the operations process. We need our employees to strive for continuous improvement. The job includes, but is not limited to:
- Net washing / cleaning
- Maintaining the vessel to a high standard, ensuring full compliance with MCA workboat code and certification
- Perform any combination of duties aboard the vessel including lookout, steering and engine-room watches.
- Treatment, harvest, grading and mooring assistance
- Loading, unloading and handling of deck cargo
- Reporting and liaising with farm management
- Stock control, logging and management of ships’ supplies
- General maintenance
- Inspection and maintenance of equipment and facilities around the farm
- Monitoring and maintaining fish health, welfare and bio-security
- Boat handling around the farm
- General farm tasks to keep the whole operation running
Ideal candidates
The ideal candidate will have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.
- STCW & RYA certification is required
- ML5 or ENG1 Medical certificate is required
- Experience is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
- Flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to understand the aims of the site and to support the rest of the team to achieve these
- Respect for the need for safe working practices
- Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? Don’t worry, we can help with the cost of lessons
