Job description
The Oral Health Promotion (OHP) Team is commissioned to work with 9 South London Local Authorities. The post holder will deliver oral health promotion across the communities of South London, with specific responsibilities for boroughs Croydon, Merton and Sutton. However there will be occasional working in the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth, Lewisham, Southwark and Lambeth.
As a member of the OHP Team the post holder will be involved in supporting, planning, supervising and quality assuring service delivery, developing resources and team skills, as well as data collection for monitoring and evaluation. This will involve applying the evidence-base in design of interactive OHP activity and coordinated evaluation over a wide range of community groups in line with the needs of the service.
The post holder will be working to improve the opportunities for oral and general health for individuals and families living in the borough of Croydon, Merton and Sutton.
- Providing informal advice to parents, carers, adults and staff and providing health promotion activities for children and young people in a wide range of settings, designed to promote oral and general health across the community.
- The post holder will also be responsible for delivering fluoride application in schools and training and support for a variety of practitioners working in the community and in schools.
- Communicate evidence based oral health advice to local families in settings across the community, using a wide variety of methods and resources. This will include display, puppetry, costume and arts based activities.

- Work in schools to promote oral health, this will include providing evidence based classroom activities, delivery of health events, information and advice for parents/carers and supporting school staff to incorporate oral health promotion into everyday practice.
- Contribute to the development of high quality innovative oral health promotion activities for use in schools and community settings, designed to meet specific oral health, general health and wider curriculum objectives.
- Contribute to the production of materials and resources to support oral health promotion activities
- Deliver oral health promotion with hard to reach and vulnerable groups across the community.
- Accompany and assist staff undertaking home visits to parents and carers of children with special needs, as part of the Infant Preventative Dentistry Scheme.
- Promote the oral health of older people and provide information and advice for carers and staff teams working with older people.
- Build links across the community with practitioners and groups to promote oral health and develop joint working to improve the opportunities for oral health.
