Owner Operator Driver
Duties:
- Operate a box truck or similar vehicle to transport goods and materials to designated locations
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling and securing of items
- Follow delivery schedules and routes to ensure timely and efficient transportation
- Inspect vehicles before and after each trip, reporting any maintenance or repair needs
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including receipts, mileage, and fuel usage
Job summary
We are looking for an individual to cover a placement within Derriford Waste Management Services. This role will include collection of customers waste/materials/general transport duties within shift patterns consisting of 12 hours day shifts from 0600 - 1800 for 4 days then 4 days.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for ensuring full compliance with all legislation regarding the incinerator operations (on and off-site locations).
Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of yourself, other employees, agency workers, contractors, customers and visitors entering this site and other locations.
Responsible for all environmental compliance operations within the role.
Ensuring waste is accepted onto the site in accordance with the Companys Environmental Management Systems Permit procedures.
Ensuring all data recording is done correctly, (electronically or manually). Input load data details onto the weighbridge system as and when required.
Responsible for completing all the daily vehicle checks before leaving site and reporting any issues/defects using the correct procedures (defect logbooks). Vehicles are suitably always fuelled.
Responsible for the cleanliness and condition of trust vehicles and equipment.
Loads are securely fixed and compliant with Road Traffic Regulations including ADR requirements if qualified.
To be able to represent the company in a professional and cost-effective manner to provide customer satisfaction.
Flexibility to work within the plant or yard when driving duties are complete or not required to fulfil your contracted hours.

Job responsibilities
Ensuring waste is accepted onto the site in accordance with the Companys Environmental Management Systems.
Maintaining the cleanliness of all working areas.
Undertaking plant maintenance as directed by Foreman.
Ensuring the correct PPE as provided by the company is worn at all times, gloves must be worn in all operations.
Remaining aware at all times of your responsibilities for your own health and safety and others around you.
Vehicle offloading in a safe manor according to risk assessments and SOPs provided.
Installing correct information onto the weighbridge including customer information and correct EWC codes so information can be transferred to main office.
Carrying out other tasks within your operational abilities as and when required.
Operating in accordance with company Health and safety procedures at all times.
Ensuring compliance with company Save Working Procedures and Risk assessments and where to find them.
Follow and understand Tool Box Talks and where to find them.

Essential
- Full UK Driving License
Desirable
- Experience of using tail lifts on 3.5 tonne Luton vans

- Experience of the control of waste transfer operations, covering the acceptance, storage and transfer of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Knowledge of local area and be to able to follow routes.

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Previous experience in box truck driving, school bus driving, or bus driving is preferred

- Mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Strong organizational skills to manage delivery schedules and routes efficiently
- Excellent communication skills to interact with dispatchers, customers, and other team members
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks related to loading and unloading freight
