We welcome applications from substantive Inspectors and substantive Sergeants suitably qualified to apply for promotion, for an exciting opportunity to join Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) as an Inspector – Operations Manager.

You will support the Head of Protect and Prepare in the delivery of continual development, implementation and co-ordination of the Counter Terrorism Protect and Prepare CT Strategy for the South East region. You will work as part of the CTPSE management team, to create the environment that enables all our staff to work together to keep people safe. You will be responsible for managing the CTPSE protective security community assets employed in CTPSE.

You will have proven ability to lead the policing response to a major event or incident, and experience and proven ability working in partnership with other agencies is essential. You must be a skilled communicator/negotiator and be able to present information coherently to a variety of audiences.

Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary for the successful candidate to obtain and maintain vetting level DV. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National andhave resided in the UK for the past ten years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the CTPSE protective security community assets employed in Counter Terrorism Policing South East. Work with NaCTSO to co-ordinate their activity in line with national, regional and local priorities and cognisant of national guidance.
  • Manage the CTPSE, training, learning and development resources to ensure officers and staff working within CT policing in our region are properly equipped to perform their role.
  • Support all CT policing operational activity across the CONTEST strategy.
  • Provide support to Head of Protect and Prepare CTPSE by working with the chair of the SE regional Protect and Prepare Board (SERPPB) developing and maintaining relationships with forces in order to help inform the operational response plans to CT incidents or events in a consistent way across the South East region. Provide support to force Protect & Prepare Boards or equivalent e.g. (CT TCG).
  • Develop effective working partnerships nationally, regionally and locally with agencies including the military and other emergency services involved in CT policing to enhance the response to an incident/event in the region. This needs to include working with Local Resilience Forums to help shape the wider involvement of all relevant agencies at times of extremis and building links with the business sector.
  • Work at a tactical level with the Organisational Development Unit (ODU) and the Home Office around the requirements for testing and exercising elements of CT preparedness contained within national, industry and business specific threat documents. Negotiate and influence across local forces and government departments to plan and deliver exercise requirements against CT Threat.
  • As a manager in CTPSE, contribute to the effective management of the unit, to ensure efficient utilisation of resources. As required undertake projects driven by the Counter Terrorism agenda commensurate with this role.

Essential role based training

Within in the first six months the post holder will be expected to have booked or completed;

  • Complete CT policing training.
  • Attend and complete Emergency Planning College courses.
  • De-brief exercise and events course.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • Proven ability to provide tactical command of police response to a major event or incident.
  • Experience and proven ability working in partnership at a strategic and tactical level with other agencies.
  • Skilled communicator and negotiator able to present information coherently to a variety of audiences.
  • Hold a valid driving licence.

Additional information

  • This post will require the holder to travel in the South East and attend meetings across the CT Network as required.
  • This post holder will be required to be Developed Vetted (DV).
