Operations Manager - Bar
45-50k Basic plus discretionary bonus

Full time including weekends
Peppermint deliver bar operations at the UK’s most high profile events - whether that be outdoor music festivals such as British Summer Time, Secret Garden Party and Radio 1 Big Weekend; prestigious sporting events, such as Cheltenham and The Open as well as a host of other concerts at venues at Wembley and the O2 Arena.
Peppermint have joined forces with Freight Island, a 3000+ capacity venue in Manchester, open Thursday - Sunday to the public and hosting private events during the week. This impressive venue has 7 bars including a craft taproom, speciality wine bar and cocktail bar. Freight hosts 15 food traders, arcade games, sports screenings, comedy nights, kids raves and DJ takeovers.
In this new role, the Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the wet led operation of Freight Island. The Operations Manager will ensure operational and licensing procedures are being upheld to deliver a great customer experience to everyone who visits Freight Island in collaboration with venue management.
This role requires a strong commercial thinker with exceptional planning skills and a desire to push the wet led business forward with the support of Peppermint’s head office and directors. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Freight Island team - who manage the venue operation, food traders and events. You will be extremely organised, motivated and willing to hit the ground running. We are looking for someone who is open minded and can fit in to delivering Peppermint’s ethos with us which is built around people, technology and sustainability.
The Role
- To deliver the efficient day to day operations of the Freight Island’s 7+ bars
- Responsible for onsite budgets - staffing, stock and fixed costs
- Weekly budgeting, reporting and meetings with Peppermint HQ
- Managing a team of 3 managers and at peak 70 bar and floor staff.
- Drive forward the drinks menu in line GPs and the venue’s vision which includes a designated cocktail, wine and craft bar, whilst honouring sponsorship agreements
- To increase spend per head
- Overseeing stock and cellar management
- Overall responsibility of the floor operation
- Involvement in the planning and effective execution of private and corporate events with the Freight Island management
- DPS for the venue
- Staff recruitment, training, incentivisation and retention.
- Weekly liaising with the Peppermint’s staffing to ensure rota needs are fulfilled
- Managing the EPOS systems for the venue with the support of HQ
- To ensure all H&S policies, licencing, and training is completed by all departments
- To work collaboratively with Freight Island Management to deliver a second to none customer experience
