We have an exciting opportunity to become part of a dedicated team driving forward Rainwater Management within United Utilities.You'll inspire, motivate and influence technical change within the business and externally with partners; driving Rainwater Management solutions into our collective ways of working, leveraging multiple benefits for the North West and delivering best value for operations and our customers.You'll drive forward operations, maintenance and benefits realisation of Rainwater Management solutions and business opportunities for United Utilities.
Job Accountabilities
You'll be responsible for leading on the operations and maintenance of all UU Rainwater Management interventions installed and adopted, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Nature Based Solutions (NBS). You'll have an overarching view of all Rainwater Management projects and housing developments in progress and provide, timely and consistent operational guidance to aid a smooth operational handover. You'll also be responsible for:
- Leading on the development of new business opportunities and their successful delivery & operations; including financial and contract management
- Leading the creation and embedment of a Rainwater Management operations & maintenance best practice technical guidance
- Establishing business processes to track and monitor the value Rainwater management interventions give in terms of benefits to UU and the wider communities.
- Leading and co-ordinating the communication between United Utilities and 3rd parties (e.g. highways) in planning and implementing maintenance activities
- The focal lead for installed Rainwater Management interventions installed across UU, working closely with Drainage Area teams in particular
- Managing relationships with the Environment Agency, UU and local councils, providing a point of escalation for any issues with installed Rainwater Management interventions
- Controlling of a maintenance budget and external/internal maintenance resources
- Developing annual plans to ensure planned cyclic operational activities are carried out in an effective and efficient way, optimising revenue expenditure.
- Delivering, monitoring, controlling, reviewing and updating maintenance programmes on a monthly basis
- Productivity; quality and efficiency of the assets and teams
- Implementing a proactive approach to handling customer problems to ensure we meet all of our guaranteed service standards and customer commitments and ensure that we deliver high quality 24/7 customer service.
- Ensuring that all assets are operated and maintained to ensure we meet all statutory, regulatory, Health & Safety financial, customer and performance targets safely and at the lowest sustainable cost. This includes utilising CIRIA SuDS guidance.
- Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements through the identification of safety training needs, the application of appropriate H&S strategies and the management of day to day activities
Knowledge and Skills
To be considered for this role you'll need to hold a Degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental or relevant technical discipline and Strong leadership and communications skills to motivate, performance manage and develop a team of people to achieve their best performance. High levels of managerial ability in order to ensure the delivery of financial plans, key performance targets and regulatory compliance. You'll also have:
- Well-developed analytical skills and an ability to identify; develop and implement solutions to a wide range of financial, technical and managerial problems.
- Sound financial skills are required to ensure the delivery of financial plans and manage business operations
- Significant passion to deliver Rainwater Management and green/blue solutions
- Knowledge of Rainwater Management interventions, including Sustainable drainage expertise (SuDS) & Nature Based Solutions (NBS), but also a good understanding of Drainage, Flood Risk and the Water Industry in general.
- Proven communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to influence over a broad range of internal and external levels
- Ability to build relationships easily and quickly and generate confidence internally and externally
- Ability to analyse complex issues and develop appropriate solutions in a timely manner
- Ability to challenge current working practices and a degree of innovation and creativity to develop new approaches
