The Company

With almost 20 years behind us, we are The Reclaimed Flooring Company. A leading British brand and rapidly expanding small family run business, positioned towards the high end of the architectural and decorative market in the UK. We make by hand antique, reclaimed, vintage and contemporary wood flooring specifications, in addition to complimentary millwork and specialist finishing at our workshop in Cheshire, UK.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our established team based in Stockport.

Role Profile

Working within a busy and challenging environment the Operations Manager will be responsible for the production activities of RFC including, Efficiency, Quality Control, KPI’s, Planning, Reducing Waste and promoting Health and Safety with excellent Customer Service to ensure that performance, be it financial or operational is driven through robust processes and the engagement of people with a focused and positive approach.

This involves providing managerial, and technical leadership for performance focus, change leadership to deliver production KPIs and month on month improvements.

Reporting to the Managing Director and responsible for a small team of direct reports, this role forms part of the Senior Management Team and is pivotal in driving cultural change through the engagement of people, to deliver continuous improvement in performance, cost control, customer service, efficiencies, and employee wellbeing.

The role will also include responsibilities including Health & Safety, Quality, Housekeeping and machinery performance.

People Management

  • Recruit, manage and motivate staff via coaching, regular appraisals (Performance Development Reviews), mentoring, training and leadership by example, with direct responsibility for the workshop staff.
  • Set and monitor targets.
  • Ensure the team capability is fit for purpose via focussed absence management, recruitment, training and development.
  • Take ownership to ensure consistent and fair application of employee grievance and disciplinary processes.
  • Create a coaching environment that promotes trust and passion for performance.
  • Champion cross departmental/pillar relationships.

Compliance

  • Health and Safety – reduce accident and incident rates through the effective involvement of all production staff for the ownership of hazard identification and adherence to safe working practices, risk assessments and method statements for all current and non-standard activities.
  • Quality– ensure right first time every time through the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant health and safety and/or production / manufacturing qualifications.
  • 10+ years experience working in an efficiency driven production or manufacturing environment.
  • Functional awareness and good working knowledge of H&S, Finance, HR, Quality Control and continuous improvement.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Previous experience in the wood / wood flooring / joinery industry is advantageous but not essential.
  • Managing Change – Ability to think strategically, and to initiate, involve, and implement successful change.
  • People Management and Leadership – Strong people manager, with proven track record of driving performance improvements.
  • Building Relations – Gain support, and drive performance and success across the business through people.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills – driving positive communication within the team, as well as through the chain of command, across functions, acting with integrity and consistency.
  • Resilience and Tenacity – Ability to deliver results on time in full, within cost and to the right quality in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent IT skills - Email, spreadsheets, reports.

Compensation

Annual salary £45-50k depending on experience and qualifications.

Hours

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
