Institute Operations Manager
Salary from £40,299 pa to £48,456 pa inclusive of London allowance, with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive of London allowance
This is a fixed term appointment for 2 years with potential to extend subject to funding
The Grantham Research Institute is a world-leading centre for the study of the economics and social sciences of climate change and other global environmental problems, based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The Institute’s work has been recognised through the award of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education 2020-22. Working closely with the Institute Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for the operational administration of the Institute, and supporting a wide variety of research and engagement activity across the Institutes many programmes of work. The role encompasses human resources, the office environment, governance activity, managing a team of administrators, and research activity such as events, with some financial monitoring.
The post holder will be responsible for the life cycle administration of personnel including staff, visiting appointments and PhD students. They will play a key role in the institute culture and office environment, including arrangements for hybrid working, to support our research environment. The role includes oversight of research activity, primarily events and meetings (including roundtables, workshops, conferences both in person and hybrid), and managing the central administrative team providing delivery of these activities. Working with the Institute Manager and administrative team the post holder will implement and maintain processes for a range of activities.
Candidates will be expected to be highly organised to provide effective planning with an ability to manage a varied workload to achieve objectives, without loss of attention to detail. With experience of line management/managing a team, setting goals for others and encouraging team working candidates will have the ability to support a positive office working environment for all colleagues. With a proven ability to ensure process and standards are regularly reviewed and updated, or adapted as necessary with new guidance or opportunities, and to continually improve office systems the post holder will have the ability to forge effective working relations with colleagues across the LSE administration.
