We are looking for an experienced senior manager with direct experience in operations and project or programme delivery to work with the Venue Operations team during our critical opening months at our new venue Aviva Studios. The role will stretch across a range of operational venue areas that sit with in the remit of the Venue Director. It will involve leading discreet projects around health and safety; standard operating procures (SOP) for our new venue and teams and contract management as we embed our Security and Cleaning partners. This role will help us establish robust operational foundations as we move from opening season towards ‘Business As Usual’ at Aviva Studios.
The Venue Operation Manager will work closely with most teams across the organisation but primarily: Venue Director, Technical, Visitor Operations, Producing & Scheduling, Facilities Management, Access, Audiences, Factory Transition Project Office.
The key responsibilities for the Venue Operations Manager role include;
- Lead the review and refining of venue specific policies and standard operating procedures, Health and Safety and operating documentation working with the Technical, Facilities Management and Visitor Operations leads
- Act as the contract manager for our Visitor Safety service providers (Visitor Safety/Security and Medical) and our cleaning provider
- Coordinate the Health and Safety Committee and its work
- Alongside the Head of Visitor Operations, own the Venue Operations Manual working on updates and revisions as required
- Alongside Director of Production & Technical/Head of Visitor Operations develop the Incident Management Plan ensuring that they are communicated to the wider staff team and regularly reviewed in support of our premises licence conditions
- Take ownership of the Factory International/Aviva Studios Travel Plan – overseeing updates and revisions during the opening months to align to licencing and planning conditions
- Manage the deployment of the venue’s porters team to ensure smooth running of events and day to day activities
- On occasion deputise for the Head of Visitor Operations (Designated Premises Supervisor) at event review licensing meetings with Manchester City Council, GMP and other key stakeholders
- With the Head of Scheduling, attend the Manchester City Council Event Forward Planning ESAG (Event Safety Advisory Group) to ensure our venue activity does not conflict with other city-wide or local events
The person specification for the Venue Operations Manager role is;
ESSENTIAL
- Practical experience at senior management level within a relevant sector or industry
- Track record of delivering and supporting programmes of work or complex projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience of managing third party contractors and consultants
- Proven understanding and experience in developing and implementing Health & Safety protocols, risk assessment methodologies and reporting systems (a H&S qualification e.g IOSH or NEBOSH or relevant industry experience)
- Experience of developing operating process documents and leading roll out of these to wider teams
- Track record in planning and managing time limited projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Resourceful and resilience, with a self-starting proactive attitude
- Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
DESIRABLE
- Experience of venue management
- Experience of working on the launch, opening or re-opening a public building
- Knowledge of UK cultural sector landscape and progressive practice
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to be flexible and adaptable, whilst bringing a diplomatic approach in work
- Personal licence holder
- Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent
