DVLA Finance is a vibrant and dynamic place to work, and we offer the opportunity for you to grow and express yourself in a forward-thinking team. We are responsible for collecting over £7 billion in Vehicle Excise Duty and over £600m in fees and charges each year, with annual operating expenditure budget of over £500m.
You will provide strategic leadership and manage the Finance Control and Operations Group in the provision of a challenge, support and advisory service to Directors, Programme and other managers and ensuring effective and efficient delivery of financial management processes that fall within the remit of the Group.
You will be joining a fast-paced environment with a multifaceted workload where a resilient leader will thrive. You will work collaboratively and instil confidence with a variety of senior stakeholders including heads of group, members of the Executive Team, and the Department for Transport Finance team providing excellent exposure to networks and securing strong working relationships.
The Head of Finance Control and Operations will lead a team of Finance Professionals to deliver services to a high standard, ensuring quality assurance and timeliness of services provided to key stakeholders.
You will be a key member of the Finance & Assurance Services (FAS) senior management team and will be expected to work collaboratively to promote good financial management and professionalism across DVLA.
The responsibilities of the Head of Finance Control and Operations will include:
- Lead and manage the Group in the provision of professional finance support to the Agency to enable decision making, whilst ensuring compliance with all statutory and Government reporting requirements and standards
- Provide assurance of propriety/ regularity as part of ensuring effective delivery of robust financial management processes
- Develop and maintain working relationships with all customers and stakeholders, ensuring due process is followed
- Provide direction on required leadership, task management and people management processes within Group including career development, support and coaching of staff
- Develop the overall FAS strategy as a member of the FAS Strategic Management Team
- Working with the FAS Director to develop the quality and capability of financial management and financial governance expertise and standards to operate at the very highest standards; and
- Deputising for the Finance & Assurance Services Director, as required
Key Skills & Experience
- Fully qualified CCAB Accountant (or equivalent)
- Strong technical accounting skills and experience of leading a finance team within a large organisation
- Excellent leadership and influencing skills
- Experience of stakeholder engagement, building and maintaining positive work relationships at all levels
- Understanding of the big picture
- Highly driven and resilient to work against set timeframes
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
