Job description
For centuries, our Armed Forces have managed an in-house postal service, delivering mail across our military history including both World Wars. The British Forces Post Office provides postal and courier services to the UK Armed Forces and is a renowned brand across Defence.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Postal Operations Manager at British Forces Post Office, RAF Northolt. Reporting to the Head of Mails, we are looking to appoint a quality driven, people person and customer focused individual who will lead and motivate a small multidiscipline team of dedicated full time and part time staff to successfully deliver a safe, secure, and efficient mail operation that assures the needs of both the business and consumer are constantly achieved.
You will support the needs of the customer base, delivering British Forces Post Office Key Performance Indicators in accordance with all relevant Customer Supplier Agreements as well as security instructions relating to handling of Protectively Marked Material, Aviation Security and Health and Safety legislation.
The salary for this position is inclusive of an Outer London Weighting/Recruitment and Retention Allowances of £3250.
Please be aware you will be expected to attend site full time. The site is conveniently accessible from the M40 Motorway and A40 with good public transport links including London Underground tube stations.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, hardworking, and organised manager who can work in a customer-focused team environment to tight timescales, while remaining positive and focused on delivery of support to operational outputs.
Your responsibilities will include:
· The accurate receipt, process, and despatch of Naval Mail for all ships, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal Marine Units deployed overseas, or in home bases, ensuring Quality of Service standards are met in a cost effective and efficient manner.
· Maintain accurate Ships mail despatch schedules on the British Forces Post Office mail tracking system to meet customer demands and performance targets.
· Maintain effective methods of communications that timely informs Naval Units and overseas Embassies/handling authorities of forthcoming airmail despatches.
· Develop an effective liaison with outside organisations and stakeholders – Embassies, Foreign and Commonwealth Offices, Airlines, Shipping Agents, and Royal Mail network managers – regarding the safe and efficient movement of all Naval mails.
· Keep detailed records on the movement of all Ships mail in order to produce timely monthly billing and cost recovery documentation.
· Act as Primary Delivery Manager for a small team of Operations clerks ensuring all HR, Performance Assessment Reviews along with staff training and development requirements are fulfilled according to individual need and business expectation.
· Instil and maintain an efficiency driven and quality focused working environment that consistently champions exemplar customer service and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Monitor work area performance, providing clear direction, support, and appropriate action to ensure staff and procedures meet operational requirements and comply with all current safety regulations and security standards.
· Working closely with your peers and other Internal stakeholders, maintaining accurate Fleet Mail metrics and providing accurate reports and performance data as required by LM’s, BFPO Command Board or externally whilst also ensuring timely input to BFPO’s monthly dashboard is satisfied.
Individuals must achieve their Department of Transport Aviation Security Cargo Manager accreditation within first year of employment. Appropriate training will be provided throughout.

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
· Managerial Experience
· Experience in a customer facing role
· Effective working knowledge of Information Technology systems and Microsoft Office applications
It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria :
· Previous Mail, Regulate Agent (Cargo and Mail), Supply Chain or Warehouse Logistics experience
