Cumbria logistics is a family run business that specialize in palletized goods delivering in the CA, LA, DG and TD post codes. It is a multi network operation we also deliver hazardous freight. The operation currently handles 700 to 900 pallets a day through our site near Longtown and operates a mixed fleet of around 40 vehicles
JOB TITLE
Operation Manager
Working in Longtown, Carlisle, Cumbria
Salary £45,000
Working hours – 7.30 am till 6.00 pm generally
MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB
Managing the day to day operations of Cumbia Logistics a pallet delivery network partner. Duties will including working to ensure health and safety standards are met, managing staff on a day to day basis, training new and existing staff, planning and organizing shift patterns, working collaboratively with the transport Manager and directors to ensure the overall smooth running of Cumbia Logistics.
POSITION IN ORGANISATION
Reports To: James and Karla Charnley
Responsible For: Warehouse Personnel, Office Staff and Drivers
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of the day to day operations of Cumbria logistics. This will include the management of a team of 10 office staff, 10 warehouse staff and 48 drivers (who will be managed in partnership with the transport manager).
- Effective leadership and management of the operational and administration teams
- Responsible for the safe and efficient organisation of vehicle loading / unloading
- Managing, monitoring and developing a team of drivers/ warehouse staff and office staff.
- Involved in strategic development and strategy making.
- Being a point of contact for all warehouse and office staff, recruiting and training.
- Arranging for the appointment, induction and training off new staff whilst monitoring closely staffing levels within the warehouse.
- Maintaining accurate administrative records.
- Overseeing the organisation of forklift and pallet barrow checks and maintenance.
- Support TM with compliance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Legal Requirements with particular focus on load security.
- Identifying operational issues, potential problems and opportunities for change.
- Resolving and managing queries and complaints courteously and efficiently.
- Appraising staff performance and also taking disciplinary measures when required.
- Ensuring all site and customer objectives are achieved.
- To ensure drivers follow operational procedures in relation to multiple delivery apps. This needs to be routinely checked throughout the day on relevant computers systems and contact drivers.
- Responsible for ensuring that drivers have checked their loads and relayed information on discrepancies and damages at the beginning and end of the day.
- Ensuring the drivers are correctly labelling return collection pallets
- Responsible for KPI in relation to a multi network operation.
- Responsible for Health and safety of all entering the site.

EXPERIENCE
Previous experience managing teams/ People
Experience of working in the transport industry preferably the pallet network sector
Conflict Management with a proven track record of managing people
KNOWLEDGE
A good grounding in general knowledge relating to road haulage
Fork lift license
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to work unsociable hours if required
Ability to be flexible with hours worked to gain knowledge about and manage all the shift patterns within Cumbria logistics. We will require for you to cover our vehicle router when he is on annual leave. This will involve working through the night.
