Perks and benefits
Applied is the platform for debiased hiring.
We’re pushing back against outdated hiring practices by rearchitecting the process and leaving CVs behind. Our product is born out of scientific research, data-driven methodologies and has a purpose: it removes flawed signifiers, mitigates systemic inequalities, and surfaces the best candidates, taking the guesswork out of hiring.
Although Applied has a remote-first culture, as the operations manager will be responsible for managing our office in London, and so the person who fills the role will need to be within commuting distance to Central London.
The Role
We’re changing the way hiring is done for good and need an operations manager to join the team. This is a generalist operations role encompassing various aspects of People Operations and HR, IT management, compliance and data protection. We want to ensure scalability by focusing on mitigating risks, minimising friction in our processes and generally making it easier for our colleagues to get their work done.
Our operations team sees itself as enabling and supporting the business to grow. A lot of what we do is a delicate balance between pushing for innovation and mitigating risk.
We have a great starting point: hundreds of customers that love us, colleagues obsessed with doing things well, and a solid foundation of people processes, security, and finance.
In your first 6 months at Applied you'll:
Work with our Head of Sales and Head of Engineering to create a process enabling faster procurement of our products
Prepare and organise Applied's all-company offsite
Order and set up new equipment and email addresses for new starters
Conduct GDPR and security training for all staff
Streamline our GDPR and compliance documents and work with our DPO to ensure we’re on top of any regulatory changes
Manage the employee review process
Work with the finance team to review monthly payroll
You'll benefit from:
Equity in the business
Wellbeing benefit and access to Spill
Remote working budget
Internet stipend
Learning & development budget + progression support
Involved in other aspects of the business, from strategy, management and training, to shaping team culture
Being part of something that's both commercially successful and socially important
We’re working remotely first and have a small office in London for teams to use at will.
About Our Operations Team
We place a high value on trust, communication, ambition, empathy, accountability, user & data driven decisions, and have a bias towards action and curiosity.
We’re a team who works across the business with many internal and external stakeholders. We understand the business objectives, the needs of the broader team and work with team leads and the CEO to prioritise accordingly. On the Operations team you’ll work closest with the CEO and the Finance Manager. It’s important to be comfortable working in an early-stage environment where there is uncertainty (fun!) that change can bring. We always try to get the right balance between pushing for growth and the reality of working efficiently.
Next Steps
Our process is progressive - Instead of submitting a CV, you’ll answer 5 work-related questions. Our goal is to assess your approach to a problem, and better understand what knowledge and skills you have, while giving you an idea of what some of the work could look like.
Our advice is to read the question carefully and answer in full as we won’t look at your CV or ask for a cover letter. Please don't just copy-paste chatGPT/generative AI questions- we can tell, and you'll be asked to demonstrate these skills in a live interview anyway, so it won't be a great use of your time, and a missed opportunity to actually succeed in the process.
If you work at Applied, you'll need to search for things, so feel free to do this during the application as it isn’t a test. Your answers will be anonymised, randomised and reviewed by the team. We use these scores to shortlist for a first interview and then if successful a final interview where we will as a team, discuss values, motivation and give you a chance to do a reverse interview where you ask us questions.
Right to work: we are working remotely but only accepting applications in the UK for this role at the moment. We do NOT provide visas in order to move to the UK, so please only apply if you have a right to work in the UK.
