Job description

Thank you for your interest in this role at The University of Manchester. The University has a rich heritage of discovery, social change and a pioneering spirit, which has been at the heart of what we do since 1824. When you join our university, you become part of a truly diverse and global community of staff, students and alumni all focused on ensuring that we are recognised for the excellence of our people, research, learning and innovation, and for the benefits we bring to society.

Applications are invited for the above post to appoint an experienced PA to support a Head of Department within the School of Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced administrator, working in partnership with key PS and academic staff.

Core responsibilities include managing the Head of Department’s diary and acting as first point of contact for the Head of Department and other staff within the office; organising travel and accommodation for UK and overseas trips; producing regular and effective communication on behalf of the Head of Department to be circulated amongst department staff; servicing and organising regular meetings and events; maintaining staff records and other departmental records ensuring compliance with GDPR and other legislation.

You will have excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision and to show initiative with good attention to detail.

Good IT skills are essential. Experience of using Oracle Financials is desirable.

The post holder will be assigned to a Department within the School, but will be employed by the School and as such may be required to support other areas, across the School.

Within your application, please ensure you use the ‘additional information’ section of the form to provide examples, demonstrating how you meet each of the essential (and, if applicable, desirable) criteria detailed within the person specification of the role description.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability or sexual orientation. As Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates are currently under-represented at this level at the University, we would particularly welcome applications from individuals in minority ethnic groups. All appointments will be made on merit.
