BBC Wales Technology Support is the team keeping all of your favourite output on air across Wales. Our team is self motivated and customer focused. We are based at the UK’s most Technologically advanced broadcast centre in the heart of Cardiff. From Radio drama to TV drama, Live Orchestra to Live news. You name it, we are across it! Our Engineers are responsible for the installation and maintenance of a wide range of systems covering all aspects of Broadcasting across Radio, Television and Online. Main ResponsibilitiesEngineers may work as part of a team or work independently to maintain the required service. They will carry out engineering tasks that are complex and for which full technical information may not be available.
They should appreciate the technologies and systems which support BBC Wales production and transmission operations for TV and Radio. They will be required to work as a part of the engineering support team on current projects, dealing with operational support and faults.
They are required to repair faults quickly or to identify and implement alternative ways of providing programme requirements to overcome technical problems and maintain the continuity of work in the production area. In addition there may be occasions where you will be required to drive a pool/hire car to provide support at all/any BBC Wales sites/OBs where the individual holds a valid driving licence.

We understand that it isn’t all about being technical so it is crucial you are customer focussed with an understanding and appreciation of the pressures facing programme makers. You’ll be adept at adjusting your communication style to suit a wide variety of stakeholders and quick to develop good working relationships, inspiring confidence in your colleagues.
In order to ensure continuity of service, good communication skills both written and verbal are essential as you will need to ensure colleagues are able to pick up work that has been started but not completed. You will be proactive and seek out opportunities to further your knowledge and skills where appropriate and seek guidance and training when required.
As our areas of broadcast support are so vast we understand not everyone can know everything broadcast. We will develop any gaps within your knowledge and encourage you to develop specialisms.

- Experience within a television / radio broadcast environment or similar technical environment.
- Experience of providing successful technical solutions through to BAU Operations
- Excellent communications and inter-personal skills
- Sound customer service, motivational and excellent troubleshooting skills
- Windows 10 Installation & Administration, Remote Administration, IIS and web hosting technologies, Jira, Ansible IT Automation, PowerShell & VB scripting Skills
- Active Directory Understanding, Knowledge of Windows Patch Management
- A good understanding of Networking to debug network issues
- Experience with Graphics (eg VizRT) and editing software solutions.
- Experience of studio automation and robotic systems.
- Experience of repairing electronic and mechanical faults on technical equipment.
- Experience in managing conflicting demands in high pressure situations where priorities are rapidly changing.
- Awareness of all aspects of Health and Safety, particularly electrical safety within broadcast environments.
