Job description
As the Operations Business Services Team Manager you will be responsible for managing the Operations Business Services team, whose main function is to lead on the management of core business services, deal with emergent issues and drive an environment of continuous improvement on behalf of over 2000 front line staff.
You will work with project teams to drive forward an ambitious programme of change, improvement and transformation of services across DVSA Operations, embedding a number of different projects simultaneously.
The Operations Business Services Team Manager will also have responsibility for Operations core business services which includes risk management, strategic planning, management of centralised budgets as well as other key functions.
You will work closely with Operations directors and senior manager teams to ensure that the services are always in the best position for delivering against business objectives and providing excellent customer service.
You will also provide support and absence cover to the Head of Operations Business Services and regularly feed into the Operations Corporate Senior Leader (CSL) team.
You will have line management responsibility for the Operations Business Services team, comprising of 5 reports.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
- Being an ambassador of Operations strategic approach to managing change and continuous improvement in Operations. This will include ensuring the voice of all Operations colleagues is heard and acted upon.
- Taking end to end responsibility for the management of risk across Operations, ensuring that there are robust reporting/escalating practices in place for both local and directorate level risk registers.
- Overseeing business planning and strategy for Operations, engaging with Strategy and Planning teams, utilising subject matter experts as appropriate.
- Working with senior management and corporate colleagues to maintain oversight of operational resilience and contingency planning.
- Taking responsibility for centralised Operations processes such as overtime and other business processes.

Person specification
We would love to be joined by a motivated individual with experience of successfully delivering change and improvement, and who has an understanding of Risk Management, Governance and strategic planning processes.
You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and will enjoy managing a varied workload. Your fantastic organisational skills mean you are able to balance and prioritise multiple tasks to achieve successful outcomes.
You will have good judgement and problem solving skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sometimes unexpected situations and challenges.
You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and are able to quickly build rapport and strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
You are an enthusiastic leader, able to motivate and inspire a team to provide first-class customer service.
Embracing and delivering change is one of your strengths and you enjoy supporting others to improve performance and embed better practices.
Additional Information
There will be occasional travel required with this role to other DVSA locations, which may include overnight stays.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment will include:
- an interview
The sift is due to take place from 13th June 2023.
Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 26th June 2023.
This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
