Job description
As an Operational Officer you could be placed in a variety of teams, where we may ask you to do all or a variety of these tasks:
Checking and processing documents filed under the Companies Act- Correctly recording data and following set guidelines
- Answering customer queries and complaints, verbally and in writing, providing guidance as required
- Handling customer correspondence correctly, with a high attention to detail
- Confidently meeting deadlines and targets
- Working as part of a team, to deliver a great service to our customers
- Ensuring our powers are put into action, so that our customers comply with legislation and have sanctions applied when needed.
Person specification
As an Operational Officer you’ll:
Be well organised, and able to deliver under pressure- Have good written and verbal communication skills
- Have good IT skills
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities and procedures
- Produce accurate work
- Be bold and curious to analyse information, ask questions and challenge when things don’t seem quite right
- Be confident to seek advice and support from colleagues and managers
- Be able to learn quickly on the job in a fast-paced work environment.

Selection process details
All our recruitment at Companies House uses the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, which will assess your behaviours, strengths and experience. Our recruitment process is underpinned by recruitment which is fair and open with decisions made on merit, as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners’ Recruitment Principles.
In your application form we’d like you to:

What will the process look like?
- We’ll sift all applications – this involves reading through them all, please bear with us as this can take some time.
- If you’re successful at sift stage, we’ll invite you to an Assessment Centre at our Cardiff Office, which will include some activities to show us your skills, and an interview.
Where will you be working?
We have a variety of Operational Officer roles available in a range of exciting teams and we will allocate successful candidates to roles. They will be an initial training period where you’ll be based in our Cardiff Office. Following this, currently some of the roles will be hybrid (which will include some office attendance and some working from home) whereas others will be based in and working from our Cardiff office. This could be reviewed in future.

Childcare vouchers
Any move to Companies House from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments. Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed. BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
