About the team
The Onboarding and Allocation Team sits within HR People Services and provides support to both the Recruitment Team, and the Customer Services Training Team. Our primary focus is to ensure that applicants and delegates have a positive experience throughout their journey, from when they apply for a role with GWR through to completion of training ready for their new job.
What is the job?
The role is both varied and challenging. You'll be responsible for managing vacancies and onboarding applicants as well as the training allocation process, for both new hires and internal colleagues. The main focus for this position is the provision of excellent administrative support to the Recruitment Team.
What will I be doing?
- Onboarding successful applicants (arranging medicals, release from duties, reference checks, security checks, and issuing contracts)
- Ensuring all onboarding paperwork is complete and copies uploaded to colleague personnel files
- You'll maintain onboarding and recruitment trackers and provide reports where required
- Scheduling candidate assessments and interviews using the online recruitment system
- Managing the collation and advertising of vacancies, externally and on the internal vacancy list
- Responding to general recruitment enquiries and candidate communications

Where is the job based?
The Recruitment, and Customer Services Training teams are based in Milford House, Swindon town centre. Milford House is a short walk from both the station and bus station.
What are the hours?
This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
What else do I need to know?
This role can be entirely office-based or hybrid. Office cover is needed on a rotational basis but you can also work from home or in other network locations.
This is a fixed-term contract expected to last nine months.

The salary for this position is £28,835 per annum.
