Role Overview

This is an exciting role within the Head Office Finance Team, based in Edinburgh and provides an opportunity to add value to a key area of financial processes and control.

The Head Office Accountant will be responsible for providing timely, reliable and meaningful financial and management information, working closely with the Executive team and other key stakeholders on developing annual budgets and financial forecasts and by monitoring the financial performance of the business against plans. The role will report into the Finance Manager and play a key part in ensuring that a tight financial control environment is maintained and for driving the continual review and streamlining of existing finance processes.

In addition, the Head Office Accountant will be responsible for the management and development of the Finance Assistant within the Head Office function.

Specific Tasks

  • Support in the production and review of the monthly management accounts, providing variance analysis and insightful commentary to budget holders. Leading the monthly review meetings with budget owners to help drive control over costs.
  • Working closely with key stakeholders to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Management of key month end accounting adjustments across the hotel portfolio including stock, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Managing the company’s capital expenditure and project reporting processes.
  • Completion of the quarterly VAT returns and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with VAT legislation and timely payment of VAT liability.
  • Production of service charge expenditure statements for Apex Head Office tenants.
  • Production of the statutory accounts for the Apex Hotels Group and assistance in the year end audit of the business.
  • Supporting with corporation tax and other tax compliance work.
  • Supporting the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks and projects.

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Strong MS Excel skills including VLookups and pivot tables
  • Can demonstrate good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - the role involves working closely with colleagues at all levels and from all areas of the business

Desirable

  • Hospitality sector knowledge
  • Whilst full training will be given, it would be advantageous to have knowledge of Sage
