We have an exciting opportunity which has arisen for a Band 3 Occupational Therapy assistant working within the Occupational Therapy department at the Wells Road Centre.

The Wells Road Centre is part of a Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate. The post is to have specific links five inpatient wards where you will to contribute to the provision of Occupational Therapy interventions . You will work with Occupational Therapist's to deliver high quality based occupational therapy interventions.

You will be a part of a large and friendly supportive team that consists of Occupational Therapists, OTA's , technical instructors, wellbeing facilitators, sports instructors, music instructor and education staff.

We ask that you have the enthusiasm and motivation to engage and inspire patients , supporting them through their recovery.

You will have the responsibility of delivering individualised interventions such as practising activities of daily living skills i.e. shopping, cooking , use of public transport. You will also be encouraged to support patients to develop their personal interest's and to work towards their goals for the future. You may be required to facilitate group work under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.

You will have the responsibility of supporting patients to attend college courses , voluntary work and other community based interventions under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist.

You will have responsibilities to support the Occupational Therapy department and the Occupational Team lead.

You will have responsibilities to carry out tasks such as kitchen cleaning, checks , daily administration checks and health and safety duties to support the department.

You will have responsibilities to work closely with a range of animals at our spinney meadows site and provide animal care duties and maintenance duties of the site under the guidance of the technical instructors.

You will have a GCSE/GCE Grade C level or equivalent in Maths and English.

You will be a team player and have skills in motivating others and experience in working in a healthcare setting. You will have good communication and negotiation skills, experience of of facilitating group and individual session planning and delivery and IT skills. You will have a range of practical skills particularly in cooking , gardening and domestic skills . Additional practical or creative skills are desirable. Additional duties will include animal care and maintenance tasks at our Spinney Meadow site. You will need to be adaptable and able to work independently. You will have a non- judgemental attitude and a recovery orientated approach. You will have an ability to motivate others and support them to actively participate in meaningful activities.

This role may include weekend working dependant on service need.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa and also does not appear on the shortage occupation list for healthcare and education. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
