Have you a passion in aiding independence and supporting people to live at home? If so, we would like to hear from you.
We are in the position to offer the perfect candidates the opportunity to develop their skills and an Occupational Therapy Assistant within our new and exciting Adult Social Care integrated teams.
The successful candidate will be able to support the wider teams to develop the services whilst working alongside our experienced Occupational Therapy colleagues working across adult social care teams.
Hull City Council is looking for exceptional individuals like you to join the Adult Social Care team. If you are enthusiastic, motivated and are up for a new challenge, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
In Hull, Occupational Therapy is a vital function of Adult Social Care, ensuring that individuals can maintain their independence and live life to the fullest in their own homes. We have established a close working relationship with multi-disciplinary teams across adult social care, and health colleagues within the NHS and as such we are not only able to collectively offer exceptional care and support to the people of Hull but also can offer excellent training, support and development in your career.
The part time vacancy is within the Housing and Adaptations Team although there may be a requirement to pick up cases from within the other OT teams. We use solution focussed conversations to support people to access the most appropriate information, advice or services which will help them to maximise their independence and prevent or delay the need for formal support.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of clients referred to adult social care as follows:
- To work in conjunction with the Occupational Therapists to enable people to improve their health, wellbeing, and independence. Undertaking joint assessments and reviews with surveyors, Social Work and Telecare staff where a joint approach would be appropriate and beneficial.
- To assess for equipment/adaptations and alternative housing to maintain a person’s independence and ability to remain in their own home.
- To undertake void viewings.
- To undertake the office-based telephone duty role on a rolling rota.
- The post-holder will deliver strengths-based, person-centred and solution focused interventions which respect the person as the expert in their life. They will have conversations enabling people to shape their own lives, identify their own goals and provide interventions to sustain their independence and wellbeing as part of a proportionate assessment process.
- To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within adult social care, using the principles of personalisation. The post holder will be skilled in actively listening and undertaking solution focussed conversations, and able to support people to shape their own lives and have the confidence to sustain independence. This means assisting people to develop connections to communities, family members and local organisations and community groups, using technology and local information and advice services as applicable.
The successful candidate for occupational therapy assistant will have the following:
- You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a caring approach and be willing to undertake training as necessary.
- NVQ Level 2 in health and social care or equivalent experience.
- Previous occupational therapy experience within a relevant health or social care setting would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and Safeguarding.
- Good standard of computer skills.
We provide a range of benefits to motivate, reward and recognise the valuable work of our employees which include:
- Work/Life Balance - The Council recognises that all employees need to balance home life with meeting work commitments through the provision of appropriate policies and support, for example, family and parental leave, flexible hours and career break schemes.

- Pension - We provide a defined benefit pension scheme whereby the Council contributes towards a pension payable on retirement.
