An exciting opportunity for a full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant (Band 3) has arisen at our rehab unit, 439 Ipswich Road, in Colchester. We are seeking an innovative and creative individual to join our small Occupational Therapy team with the aim of providing activities for patients on the unit. This can be 1 to 1 activities or in groups.
Under the guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) and the Ward Manager, you will be expected to assist in the delivery of therapeutic activities within the service. This will include a range of creative, social and physical activities, the majority of which will be on the ward environment. We are keen to have a focus on ‘healthy lifestyle’ in order to close the gap between physical and mental health, so an interest in this is a key requirement.

What is Staff Bank?
Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.
All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Ideally, you will have experience in mental health and have excellent problem solving, communication and organisational skills.
As part of the multi-disciplinary ward team, you will be developing intervention pathways and expanding our support for people with chronic, long-term mental health needs.
1. To support Occupational Therapy staff in the planning and delivery of therapeutic activities which can be 1-1 or group work.
2. To liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary team, including nursing, psychiatry, physiotherapy and dietetics in order to encourage collaboration with the therapeutic timetable.
3. To provide a focus on ‘healthy lifestyle’, including exercise, healthy eating, and maintaining a healthy routine.
4. To develop rapport with patients to encourage their interests and skills.
5. To be aware of individual patients’ needs through communication with Occupational Therapy and Nursing staff.
6. To observe general behaviour, ability and response of patients to activities.
7. To have an awareness of the situations that may make patients vulnerable or at risk.
8. To report any concerns immediately to qualified staff.
9. To respect patients choices and confidentiality at all times.
10. To record interventions in an agreed format.
11. Any other tasks delegated by qualified staff as appropriate to grade and experience.
