Job description
An exciting opportunity for a full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA, Band 3) has arisen within the OT team on our mental health inpatient wards at the Linden Centre in Chelmsford. The role will be covering four wards; three treatment wards and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. The acute inpatient service in Chelmsford provides 24-hour treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic setting, actively engaging and involving people who are experiencing an acute mental health episode. Patients receive individual care and treatment based on Care Programme Approach (CPA).
As an OTA you will be an integral part of the Occupational Therapy team, assisting in group work and working one to one with patients using the VdT Model of Creative Ability. The successful applicant will also work closely with the ward MDT to ensure that a high quality, person centred service is provided for people.
To work as part of the Occupational Therapy Department implementing the Occupational Therapy programmes and undertaking individual interventions with patients under the direction of qualified staff.
Ideally, you will have experience in mental health and have excellent problem solving, communication and organisational skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To support Occupational Therapy staff in the implementation of treatment programmesusing the VdT Model of Creative Ability
2. To carry out one to one interventions as directed by Senior Occupational Therapy staff.
3. To plan and facilitate group activities as directed by qualified Occupational Therapist.
4. To develop rapport with patients to encourage their interest in skills.
5. To be aware of individual patients’ needs through communication with Occupational Therapy and Nursing staff.
6. To observe general behaviour, ability and response of patients to activities.
7. To have an awareness of the situations that may make patients vulnerable or at risk.
8. To report any concerns immediately to qualified staff.
9. To respect patients choices and confidentiality at all times.
10. To record interventions in an agreed format.
11. Any other tasks delegated by qualified staff as appropriate to grade and experience.
Administration:
1. To support the administration of the team as required.
2. To complete necessary case notes.
3. To note any faulty equipment and inform qualified staff.
4. To ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy.
Profession Specific Duties:
1. Attend professional Occupational Therapy meetings as required.
2. To undertake annual appraisal and to contribute constructively to the supervision process.
3. To comply with policies and agreed procedures for annual leave, sickness and time owing.
4. Any other duties as delegated by your Director or Chief Executive commensurate with the responsibilities of this post.
