A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Milton Keynes CAMHS Team supporting the Occupational Therapy professionals within the team.

This is a new role which we would like the successful applicant to support in the further development of, the key functions of this role are to provide support and facilitate group work under the guidance of the Lead Occupational Therapist. The successful applicant will have previous experience of working in a mental health setting in an activity based role.

Previous experience of working with children and young people would be advantageous. The post holder will be required to travel in the community visiting children and young people in a number of settings across Milton Keynes, access to own transport is vital.

The post holder will work within Milton Keynes Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing a quality service to children / young people and their families.

To work as part of a team to provide specialist mental health services to children and young people with complex needs, working across boundaries of care, assisting in the assessment process where appropriate and providing short term intervention under the supervision of mental health professionals.

  • To offer short term evidence based intervention to children and young people and their carers
  • To work closely with families to develop skills and techniques to manage children and young people who display a mental health disorder and associated challenging behavior.
  • To facilitate small groups and support delivery of group work in a face to face or virtual setting
  • Assist Occupational Therapists in assessment of, and intervention provision for children and young people
  • Specialist equipment monitoring with support of Occupational Therapist, including sensory equipment, group equipment, age appropriate activities
  • To take all necessary precautions to safeguard the health, welfare and safety of patients, staff and families.
  • To undertake delegated tasks from the Occupational Therapist
  • To delivery OT input in collaboration with the child/young person, family and carers respecting their diversity, ethnicity, cultural and religious beliefs and their right to informed consent in all areas of service delivery
  • To be responsible for attending regular supervision and support meetings and to develop the role of the team member in a positive and professional manner.
  • To always act in a professional manner and as a good role model.
  • To be supportive of the multi-professional team and encourage effective team working, implementing and maintaining high professional standards within and outside the team.
  • To participate in the implementation of induction programs for new staff.
  • To promote and maintain good public relations with all agencies e.g. Children’s Social Care and Schools within the community.
  • To be risk aware and participate in a process of dynamic risk assessment, including identifying risks to self, colleagues, patients and the service and actively contributing to an effective risk management plan.
  • Must be willing to visit children and families in a variety of setting.
