Walsall Community Paediatric Occupational Therapy have the opportunity to recruit topermanent Band 6 posts for 37.5 hours.
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapy post working within the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team in Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will provide support and advice by working in partnership with key professionals in the Paediatric Therapy Service.
Walsall Community Paediatric 's Occupational Therapy Service is an integral part of community children's service within the partnership of Walsall Healthcare Trust and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Walsall is a multicultural and vibrant part of the West Midlands. The service is dynamic and works closely with multidisciplinary and multiagency colleagues.
The post holder will be based at Walsall Child Development Centre. The successful applicant will need to be a team player, who is flexible in approach, resourceful and keen to demonstrate the distinctive contribution and added value that an Occupational Therapist can offer the multiagency team. You will need excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in achieving wellbeing and positive health outcomes for children and young people.
As a Band 6 OT you will have an opportunity to:
- Develop your community children occupational therapy skills, e.g. assess and treat children with a range of developmental conditions within the child's home and community settings such as nursery and school
- Develop your skills in complex case management of children and families
- Develop your skills in Participation, Environment and Occupation and its application when assessing need and working with families and carers
- Develop supervisory, leadership and service development skills
- Develop your skills in service development
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

To provide an advanced standard of occupational therapy assessment, treatment, management and advice to paediatric patients aged 0-19, their families and carers within the community setting. The caseload consists of children with a wide range of development difficulties and/or disabilities, many of whom may have very complex or multiple pathologies. To work as a lone practitioner, unsupervised, and at times in conjunction with less senior team colleagues across a variety of locations within the community including patients homes, schools, clinics, to meet the needs of the individual child.
