Job overview
Exciting new opportunity for a part time specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Community Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service. The post will be based in North and East Cornwall between Bodmin and Liskeard. The service provides specialist assessment and rehabilitation for patients with a wide variety of acquired and progressive neurological conditions, including Stroke. This friendly, enthusiastic and dynamic team are aiming to expand, increasing therapy clinics and have access to pool cars for community visits. You will be working with experienced health care professionals as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team who will give support, joint working, regular supervision, appraisal, in-service training programme and a real commitment to professional development for you to reach your full potential.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with stroke or neurological conditions, rehabilitation experience, excellent communication skills, team working, time management, and a flexible approach. Duties will include completing specialist neurological and functional assessments, formulating, and implementing rehabilitation programmes, supporting patient self management, education and support of carers, wider health, social care and voluntary services involved in patient care.

Main duties of the job
To deliver specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of patients on own caseload. These patients will have acquired or progressive neurological conditions or stroke, presenting with clinical complexity. Interventions will include vocational rehabilitation, signposting relevant of services and agencies, postural management, cognitive and/or perceptual assessment and interventions, assessment of sensori-motor and visual impairments, tailored use of psycho-social therapies, skilled support with capacitated decision-making, supporting engagement in meaningful occupation, and skilled discharge planning from acute and protected care environments.
To provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice and guidance to patients, carers and other members of the neuro rehabilitation team, and linked multi professional disciplines
To participate in the planning and development of occupational therapy services within the
Neurological Rehabilitation team.
To provide specialist advice and training to wider related multi-professional teams and disciplines.
To actively engage in relevant education, training, research, and support in neuro occupational rehabilitation.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration HCPC
- Occupational Therapy Professional qualification
- Evidence of further formal study in specialist clinical area of stroke and neurology, including post-graduate qualification/certificate or diploma
- Qualification in English language or IELTS qualification
- Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapy
Desirable criteria
- Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups (for example RCOT Specialist Section for Neurological Practice)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in line with Agenda for Change Knowledge and Skills Framework for this post
- Experience of working as an Occupational Therapist with people with stroke and neurological conditions
- Experience of active engagement in multi-agency and multi-professional working
- Experience of managing risks associated with lone working
- Experience of providing regular supervision of others
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults
