An exciting opportunity has arisen at our North Central London Division for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a well established Unplanned Care Therapy Team based in Edgware Community Hospital, Barnet, North London. The successful applicant will receive regular supervision; have access to a wide range of development opportunities to support their continued professional development. There are also monthly peer support groups and regular supervision/appraisals. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference in the communities and gain a wide perspective in a range of clinical areas/pathways and new ways of working.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist (OT) with Community Therapy experience, enthusiasm and innovative working practice. The role would suit someone looking to develop their Community working with a supportive and friendly team. Excellent communication (Written and Verbal) skills are required for multidisciplinary working, problem solving, and collaborative working with Community partners/Acute discharge teams.

The successful post holders should have a Bsc/Msc in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC membership. They should be highly organised with skills to complete specialised OT assessments in patient’s homes, using evidence based tools and approaches to identify physical, cognitive and psychosocial impairments and their impact on functional (ADL) tasks. He/she should be able to formulate treatment plans, with sound clinical knowledge to prevent hospital admissions.

The suitable person will participate in seven day working Rota and have an ability to work 37.5 hours per week.

  • To provide a highly specialist Community Occupational Therapy Service as part of Unplanned Care (RR/D2A) Therapy Team, to adult clients who are diverted from hospital admission or being discharged early to the community.
  • To work as a fully integrated team member sharing in administrative, co-ordination and liaison responsibilities.
  • To undertake the assessment of clients’ referred to the teams to determine suitability for equipment and rehabilitation and communicating outcomes to referrers.
  • To deputise for the team leaders as requested.
  • To regularly supervise OT staff and other members of the team in Bands 5 and below, to ensure high quality service provision that meets standards for practice.
