Job description

New to care? We don’t care! We have confidence in the fantastic training package we have developed which will train you in everything you need to know about becoming one of our fantastic Healthcare Support Workers. Just bring along your caring approach, supportive attitude, great communication skills and empathetic nature and you will really thrive in our hospitals.

Its hard to sum up in just a few words how much our Healthcare Support Workers mean to us, but when we asked our teams, the words they used were:

  • Passionate
  • Essential
  • Inspiring
  • Dedicated
  • Needed
  • Invaluable
…just think, this could be how you are described when you join us as one of our new Healthcare Support Workers. How proud would that make you?

In return, we offer you such an opportunity to join one of our many friendly and dedicated teams where you will learn, grow and flourish – supported all the way, nurtured and developed by your manager and fantastic educational colleagues.

We promise you that you will make a difference to our patients every single day and we know that’s what will really motivate you.

We will be proud of you. You will be proud of you. You will be so valued here.

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 2 Wansbeck General Hospital. We require a nursing assistant to join our team. Ward 2 is an innovative and forward thinking, 26 bedded General Medical ward.

We are looking for experienced candidates who have commitment to ensuring safe and high quality care is delivered to our patients, as well as being a role model and supporting other members of the MDT.

You will be expected to work as part of a dynamic nursing team, delivering all aspects of care to patients and have excellent communication skills. Previous experience in a similar setting is desirable but not essential. This post will be rotational between day/night shift and cover seven days a week.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. Leading in innovation and quality, opening a state of the art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn’t, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way! Please read ‘applicant guidance notes’ before submitting.

Being a Healthcare Support Worker is a wonderful role – we know this because our teams tell us all the time. You will play a vital role in the care of our patients, helping with the day to day needs of our patients through the provision of help with personal care, bathing/showering, toileting, mealtimes and supporting them with their mobility as necessary.

You will also perform observations etc and confidently update our electronic patient records accurately to ensure all the information about our patients is captured for our clinical colleagues to use. Accuracy of information and teamwork are essential parts of the role.

Sometimes the role will be tough, you will see and be involved in some difficult things involving our patients, be very busy and deliver some very direct personal care. We don’t want to shy away from this and we know that this part of the role wont be for everyone. This is why we run such a robust interview and assessment process to make sure you understand all aspects of the role, as well as assess you to check you have all the fabulous skills, behaviours, attributes, resilience and caring nature we need.

Please read the attached Job Description and HCSW Job Profile for full details of the role.
