We are looking for a Chef/Cook for our Nursery based within the YMCA Newark & Sherwood Community & Activity Village. We are looking for you to oversee the creation of a menu and the daily production of 2 meals every day as well as snacks for the children aged 3 months up to 4 years. We are Ofsted registered, with space for 90+ children in three age-related rooms designed using the latest thinking for early years development and education. We are also committed to offering nutritious, fresh, homecooked meals to the babies and children in our care. Working 9am - 3pm each day, you will produce quality, nutritious and delicious food for the children across the nursery day including lunch, tea and snacks for babies and children. We will look for you to make suggestions and recommendations for menu choices including a variety of options to meet the needs of dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances. On a day to day basis, you can expect your role to include: Preparation and serving of good quality nutritious food in a clean and welcoming environment keeping children at the heart of the service. Compliance with Health & Safety and all food regulations. Where required, support within the Nursery and deliver the highest quality care and education for all children to achieve and maintain an Outstanding Ofsted judgement where cooking or food preparation is included in an activity. Meal planning and food ordering, keeping in line with the agreed catering budgets. Maintaining the Safer Food, Better Business documentation daily to comply with food safety management procedures and food hygiene regulations. You will need to understand childrens nutritional requirements and all food allergens. You will also naturally promote healthy eating with both staff and children. We are so excited about the quality of childcare provision we are bringing to Newark in our new purpose built nursery with plenty of natural light, big airy rooms, large outdoor space all self-contained within the nursery so it is safe and totally separate from the rest of the Community & Activity Village. About You We are looking for someone who shares our passion for quality, nutritional meals for babies and children who has experience of cooking in a childcare setting and creating nutritionally balanced meals. We would also be open to applicants from Commercial Kitchens looking to specialise in this field. Whatever your background, you will need to have: Catering NVQ Level 2 or above Food Hygiene qualification level 2 or above A working knowledge of COSHH, and all food related legislation Knowledge of Health & Safety relating to nursery andchildcare provision Allergy awareness and catering for different dietary requirements. First Aid at work qualification Initially you may be working on your own but we intend for you to mentor and train an Apprentice Nursery Chef who we would like for you to develop and manage on a day to day basis. You will be cool under pressure, able to meet fixed deadline for meal times and be highly organised to manage ordering, existing stock and daily timelines for food preparation.
