Perceived Quality Attribute Leader – Material Quality

About the Role
Lotus is recruiting for an experienced Quality professional to join our Quality team as a Perceived Quality Attribute Leader – Appearance Quality on a permanent basis. This role will be based at our prestigious manufacturing site in Hethel.
This role will be responsible for setting and delivering the aesthetical targets for new vehicles. Assessing and reporting status during project phases and driving resolution of identified issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for achieving desired perceived quality attributes related to materials used in automotive interiors and exteriors.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and qualification of materials based on their perceived quality attributes, such as appearance, haptic feel, and sound quality.
- Define and develop specifications, targets, standards, and procedures for material-related perceived quality attributes, ensuring alignment with customer expectations, brand identity, and industry standards.
- Lead the AAR laboratory and the Appearance Approval process and report..
- Work closely with design, marketing, engineering, and manufacturing teams to understand their requirements, provide technical expertise on material attributes, and guide material selection decisions to achieve desired perceived quality outcomes.
- Work closely with material suppliers and design teams to select appropriate materials and finishes that meet desired appearance targets and requirements.
- Investigate and analyse material-related perceived quality issues, working in cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to improve perceived quality.
- Maintain detailed records of material specifications, attribute targets, test results, and improvement initiatives.
- Generate reports and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Design, Human Factor or a related field.
- Deep knowledge of factors influencing perceived quality in automotive applications or similar, including visual appearance, haptic and feel.
- Ability to understand colour and be efficient in the use of surface scanning measurement devices.
- Familiarity with materials used in automotive interiors and exteriors
- Able to analyse and interpret material test data, identify trends and patterns,
- Proficiency in using relevant software tools for materials analysis, testing, and documentation, such as CAD software, data analysis software, and Microsoft Office suite.
Desirable:
- Experience of the application of automotive engineering quality tools within and OEM environment
- Understanding of the challenges inherent to complex assemblies and technologies.
- Prior experience in material selection and development for automotive applications, particularly in areas related to perceived quality
