We are currently seeking dynamic individuals to join our team as Trainee Highway Maintenance Operatives based in the Cheltenham area. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to kickstart their career in the highways industry.
As a Trainee Highway Maintenance Operative, you will play an integral role within our team, responsible for a range of tasks including setting out, maintaining, and removing traffic management systems. You will also be involved in general reactive and planned highway repairs, and once trained, you may be required to participate in out-of-hours call-out rotas for emergencies and winter maintenance.
Working primarily in two-man crews, you will work alongside experienced operatives and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of highway maintenance. For larger projects, you will also have the opportunity to work as part of larger teams, collaborating with colleagues to deliver high-quality results.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Undertaking general maintenance activities on the highways, such as patchwork, tarmacking, and landscaping.
- Loading and unloading materials as required.
- Operating a range of highways tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assisting with out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency works.
- Participating in the gritting of roads on designated routes during winter seasons, ensuring the necessary procedures and activities are carried out.
- Ensuring strict compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act at all times.
- Taking responsibility for your own safety and the safety of your team members, as well as ensuring the protection of the general public.
We are looking for candidates who possess the following skills and experience:
- Ability to take responsibility for traffic management tasks.
- Effective communication skills, enabling you to interact with colleagues, clients, and the general public confidently.
- Understanding and adherence to basic work procedures, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Possession of a CSCS card (although this is not essential).
